The biggest upgrade for me was 2017 for Windows 10 compatibility. I was never sold on the extra protection / security features of the 2018/19 versions. Acronis True Image 2018 vs 2017 version comparison review1 Acronis True Image. Do either have interesting improvements in stability, in the consolidation operation, or restore? Since I own 2018, are there mild incremental improvements, and low risk of increased problems, if I move to it? 2019 is so new that I'm not sure anyone has a well formed opinion about it. Acronis True Image can browse the contents of backups and restore them. I bought ATI 2018 but never installed it. I asked many months about about 2017=>2018, and got advice that there are only mild feature improvements, but that 2017 wouldn't be getting updates any more, both valuable bits of info. Since I'm about to experiment with more frequent backups, could either 2018 or 2019 have improvements in that area?

I suspect that ATI has been responsible for some of the few system crashes or lockups that my system experiences, though this is hard to prove.Consolidation can be a pain to go through.image restore is more complex than I like, have to resort to the docs that the kind Steve has be sure of what I'm doing.

I am going to experiment with also running another backup with ATI in either nonstop mode or else increasing the full 1/5 diff to full 1/hourly, I will write separately about that.ĪTI has been pretty ok. To date I run the full 1/diff 5 pattern, keeping two copies.

This ATI release adds just about 400 KB worth of changes to the Windows registry alone along with a very wide range of system services and kernel mode drivers including the following: However, the OS being backed up after installing this huge Acronis beast certainly does become significantly changed from its former state. In fact, I kept one of their WinPE builds for my "multipurpose" rescue media even after I removed the main app installation.Īs for Froggie's "almost an OS all by itself" comment, maybe it's not quite that radical.

The latter especially is very flexible with a "built-in" simple build option in addition to provisions for downloading, customising and using whatever WAIK package you may prefer. Actually, I quite like what they've done with their rescue media builder, both *nix- and WinPE-based.
